Green Solutions has conducted many waste composition studies:

  • Thurston County, WA (1999, 2005, 2009, 2014)
  • Ada County, ID (2014)
  • Clark County, WA (1997, 2000, 2008, 2012)
  • City of Hillsboro, OR (2011)
  • Columbia BioGas, OR (2011)
  • City of Bellevue, WA (2010)
  • Yakama Nation, WA (2009)
  • Snohomish County, WA (1998, 2009)
  • City of Bellevue, WA (2005)
  • Clallam County, WA (2003)
  • Yakima County, WA (2003)
  • Navy Whidbey and Everett Naval Bases, WA (1998)

Most of these were year-long projects involving hundreds of samples taken over four seasons. A few were one-season tests designed to collect data for other projects.

Waste composition studies provide invaluable information for assessing current and future programs, but must be conducted properly to provide accurate data. Green Solutions has a proven track record for conducting such studies successfully.

Green Solutions has also been involved in designing new approaches and training others to conduct studies, as well as testing the composition of recyclables and mixed organics. Green Solutions is currently conducting a project for the City of Seattle and King County to audit the performance of construction waste recycling facilities. Previously, Green Solutions assisted the City of Portland with tests to determine the feasibility of collecting food scraps and reducing garbage collection to every-other-week.

Providing accurate results on the breakdown of a waste stream can be a substantial investment, but there is no replacement for real data. Green Solutions can generally conduct waste composition studies at half the cost or less compared to other consultants. We can also work with clients to employ local labor or jointly explore other cost-cutting measures. Don’t hesitate to call us if you have any questions about what we can do for you.
